A Letter From the Artistic Director

Dear Fellow Music Lovers,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 9th season of the Key West Pops Orchestra. Those of you who have been frequent Pops audience members know that I strive to always make our programs fresh, exciting and just a little bit out of the ordinary. This season is no exception and I hope you will agree with me when I say that what you will experience at our concerts is not only music-making of the highest professional order, but a series of truly unique evenings at the theatre.
Following the great success of his Pops fundraiser of several seasons past, All That Jazz, the incomparable and ever-popular Randy Roberts brings you his edition of Holiday Cheer with the Key West Pops on December 16.
We continue our American Musical Theatre in Concert Series with Frank Loesser’s Guys and Dolls in concert on January 20. It is one of the great Broadway shows with loads of well-known, crowd-pleasing numbers. Our cast will include Pops newcomers Michael McCarthy as Sky Masterson and Gabrielle Visser as Sarah Brown along with perennial local favorites Bruce Moore, Joaquin Romaguera and Bobby Nesbitt. The production staff is the same outstanding team who brought you last season’s Pops smash hit Follies in concert; Rich Simone, Penny Leto, Matthew Rawls and, of course, myself.
Our originally scheduled Broadway Dance Concert has been put on hold until next season; instead we bring you Richard Adler and Jerry Ross’s 1954 smash hitThe Pajama Game. Presented in concert format, this story of boy meets girl across the picket line stars Laurie Breakwell as Babe Williams and Billy Piscopo making his Pops debut as Sid Sorokin. Add a soft-shoe by Lee Roy Reams, a bevy of hilarious secretaries and mix with the quintessentially Bob Fosse “Steam Heat” and “Hernando’s Hideaway” and I think you’ll agree that this is one of the most energy-filled evenings of musical theatre you’ve experienced in a long time. Conducted by yours truly with stage direction by Cameron Murray of KeysKids fame and choreography by Penny Leto.
So join me for some entertaining evenings at the Tennessee Williams Theatre. The shows will be like nothing you’ll see or hear anywhere else!
Yours truly,
Vincent P. Zito
Founder and Artistic Director

A Letter From the Chair
This year marks the ninth season of the Key West Pops Orchestra and my second term as its President. The past season was a resounding success and the 2007-08 concert series promises to be even more exciting.
I serve a terrific team which helps Artistic Director Vincent Zito create wonderful music, year after year. Our Executive Director, Stephanie Hellstrom, the Board of Directors and our volunteers are committed to the Zito family’s dream of bringing the finest quality of popular music to the people of the Lower Keys.
It is a great honor to be a part of this community, whose appreciation and support of the arts are second to none. The Key West Pops owes its success to our devoted audience, and we look forward to entertaining all of you again in the upcoming season.
Hon Lurana Snow,
President
